Oconto County is the outdoorsmans paradise. Unlike other counties, that are overcrowded with tourism. Oconto County is still tranquil, peaceful and quiet. If you would like to spend a nice peaceful day with your kids and not be swarmed by people, Oconto County has a lot to offer!
Enjoy the day on the water with all the great fishing in Oconto County with at least 56 great fishing lakes and 45 streams and creeks published on the Oconto County website. There are many different kinds of fish including Musky, Northern Pike, Walleye, Bass, Trout, and Pan fish. The majority of the lakes have a boat launch and most lakes have a beach for swimming.
Other activities available in Oconto County are 300 miles of ATV trails (Oconto County ATV Map) open through May 1st – October 31s,, There are four established Mountain biking trails totaling 98 miles, there are 2,073 miles of county road and town roads that are bicycle friendly, hiking is available in the Nicolet National Forest. Horse Back Riding trails total about 10 miles in the Machickanee County Forest. It is also allowed on the Nicolet trail from Gillet to Townsend. There are nine snowmobile clubs that maintain 425 miles of trails. (An $18 dollar non-Wisconsin resident snowmobile pass is required.) There are 49 miles of Cross Country skiing trails that await you in the Nicolet National forest and the Oconto County Forests as well.
