On October 8, 1871 there was a great fire in Chicago. It was called the Great Chicago Fire. On the same night, a fire broke out in Peshtigo. It wiped out the city within an hour. The fire slowed as it hit Green Bay and Lake Michigan. It was eventually put out by heavy rains.
